DIY: Dream Catchers

We’ve been feeling inspired by Coachella and Splendour in the Grass this week. Have a go at creating your own festival atmosphere, with a custom made dream catcher.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Yarn
Wooden embroidery hoop
Lace or doily
Lace ribbon
Leather thonging
Feathers
Charms and
Beads

STEP 1:

Wrap hoop in wool/yarn

STEP 2:

Weaving –
Begin by tying one end of the yarn to the hoop. Loop the yarn over the hoop and back through as shown in the photo. Keep making hoops like this, evenly spaced to your desired size around the hoop. When you get back to the beginning, continue by connecting the last hoop to the first hoop, and continue on in this pattern, pulling tighter as you go. To finish it off, just fasten it with a knot in the centre.

STEP 3:

Attach a charm or bead of your choice to the centre OR if you don’t want to make the web in the middle of your dream catcher you can use a doily or lace fabric.

3

STEP 4:

Cut your lace/doily a little bigger than the size of your hoop.

4

STEP 5:

Use the yarn to fasten the doily/lace to the hoop. Loop through the holes and knot it at the top. Continue this the whole way around the hoop, making sure the doily/lace is completely secure.

STEP 6:

Cut some lace ribbon to your desired length. Wrap around hoop and loop through as shown below.

6

STEP 7:

Repeat this with leather thonging

STEP 8:

Thread the beads over the end of the feathers, however if you prefer – you can thread beads onto leather thonging. Then just simply tie the leather around the end of the feather so it is hanging. Feel free to use as many feathers as desired.
